Moscow’s non-resource non-energy exports to the Middle East grew by 42%

In January-August 2021, Moscow’s non-resource non-energy exports to the Middle East amounted to $ 1.4 billion, 42% more than in the same period last year. Thus, in January-August 2020, Moscow’s exports to the region account for more than $1 billion. This information was announced by Vladimir Efimov, Deputy Mayor of the City of Moscow for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations.
The range of Moscow products supplied to the countries of the Middle East is wide. It varies from cosmetics and soda to high-tech equipment.
„This year Moscow’s supplies of industrial products have become the main growth driver in the structure of non-resource non-energy exports to the Middle East. Thus, agro-industrial complex products account for $ 878.8 million, and industrial exports total $ 562.4 million. At the same time, supplies of industrial products increased in monetary terms compared to the same period last year by more than twice, and the exports growth of the agro-industrial complex amounted to 19.3%,“ said the Deputy Mayor.
Today the capital exports non-resource non-energy goods to all 15 countries of the Middle East: Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, UAE, and Yemen. Moscow accounts for 10.5% of all-Russian non-resource exports. According to this indicator, the capital is behind only the Rostov region. Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Israel are among the key purchasing country in the region. These countries account for 64.4% of exports to the Middle East.
„Among the main products supplied to the countries of the Middle East are plastics and various products from it, electrical devices and communication equipment, optics, measuring instruments and medical equipment. Almost all of the listed goods and product categories show positive dynamics,“ said Alexander Prokhorov, Head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy Government of Moscow.
According to the Center for Exports Support and Development „Mosprom“, the volume of plastic exports to the Middle East amounted to $ 81.6 million; of electrical devices and communication equipment – to $ 26.1 million; of optics, measuring instruments and medical equipment – to $ 10.2 million.
In the spring of 2021, „Mosprom“ conducted a business mission to the Middle East for Moscow companies, including manufacturers of cable products, lithium-ion batteries, equipment for non-destructive testing, screening equipment, laboratory analysis equipment, and service provider in the field of design and construction of modern energy systems.
In order to increase the supply of non-resource non-energy products of Moscow companies to the region, „Mosprom“ experts in 2022 plan to conduct two business missions to Dubai separately for industrial companies and for exporters of agricultural products. Both events of the buyer’s program will be held within the framework of the two largest world exhibitions – EXPODubai-2020 and Gulfood-2022.
